Wellesley Middle School Teacher
I work as a Wellesley Middle School Teacher and I'm writing this in support of the PlayRox AfterSchool program. A student I work with has benefited greatly from the program, as he is generally unable to participate in typical school sports. He was hospitalized earlier on in the year and was therefore unable to play football for the team. He failed to make the basketball team later on. This program allows him to play sports with kids in his age group who are either closer to his skill level or just more accepting of his disability. The support from the high school students has been amazing as well: the fact that games are refereed by older kids means a lot to middle school students and is a welcome break from being with teachers all day. This program has been a blessing for this one student, but he is just one of many who is benefiting greatly. The advantages this program provides to our students can be quickly seen with a visit during one of the weekly events. Programs like this should be supported as much as possible, especially because it doesn't really take that much to give so many kids something to look forward to every week.
Wellesley Middle School Parents:
“I am so grateful for the opportunity you gave to my child! He is new to the school and this gave him a chance to PLAY and meet new kids. I love the fact that this was a chance to play sports for ALL kids and not just the “best” athletes. I can not thank you enough!”
My 6th grader loves the after school HOOPS program. We appreciate your efforts to offer this activity to the kids. It has helped my child to acclimate to middle school and get to know more classmates at the school in a relaxed, stress free environment.
“My son absolutely loved it. We were thrilled as it provided exercise, time with friends and time away from video games. We considered it just as important for his all-around growth as his academic studies. We hope the program continues.”
“He looked forward to it every week. He loves football, and to have the chance to play for the pure fun of it without the pressure and stress of playing on one of the town teams was great!”
"My youngest son absolutely loved the after school "pick up" games that you organized - especially the flag football and 3v3 basketball. He has a group of friends who loved to just do sports and they would attend together. The 1 hour time right after school was perfect - enough time to burn energy and socialize w/ friends but they still got home in time to do homework and attend other practices/lessons/etc. My son like that there was enough supervision and coordination to keep the games organized, but not too structured so that if felt like a required lesson. Great job!"
"PlayRox Teen Center was such a great program! THANK” YOU!!!!! I wish you could make the school dances as fun as the ones you hosted!"
"My son thought the programs were fun. He participated in flag football, dodgeball and basketball. Hope you continue these programs. thanks!"
“My son loves PlayRox. It is one of the highlights of his week!”
“PlayRox programs are an amazing complement to the competitive teams.
Attending a PlayRox program before big games was a grounding force for my child. The music, camaraderie and good spirited fun provided a relaxed balance that was needed.”
PlayRox Coaching and Leadership Program Testimonials
Drew Petzing - Arizona Cardinals Offensive Coordinator
& Former Terriers & PlayRox Participant and Student Coach
My desire to pursure a career in coaching was strongly influenced by the many memorable weeks I spent at Terriers. I jumped at the opportunity to follow in the steps of the coaches I had looked up to & learned from to give back the great experiences I loved as a kid. Terriers taught me about sportsmanship & the importance of being part of a team. Learning those life skills have proved to be extremely important in my life on and off the field.
Derek Chalmers, Student Coach
I love coaching. As simple as it sounds, it' the truth. I grew up attending Terriers as a kid. I always loved when my coaches got into the games and hyped the team when I was playing. As a result, as a coach, Iove giving all my energy to the kids and being a part of their experience in the games. Actually, sometimes I find being a coach more fun than beina ca camper because you control the game in a positive way and all the kids have a blast. Coaching is also a lot of hard work. Sometime the kids don't easily cooperate and it can be very frustrating to bring it all together. As odd as it may sound, this has been a great life lesson and challege for me. In life, you will experience this in many ways, but you have to realize you're a team and the goal is to get everyone to work together. In conclusion, being a coach is a great experience and has tought me great leadership and teamwork skills and hopefully the kids are learning from me.
Zach Dines, Student Coach in Training
Terriers is a really great place. I get to hang out with a bunch of kids and make new friends. Being a CIT helps teach about leadership and how to act around younger children. It helps meet more kids that I would not know and I eventually see them when I umpire their Little League games. I don’t really have a single favorite Terriers moment, but when the game gets down to the wire and there is a walk off hit or homerun that is pretty fun.
Will Mountzoures, CIT & Coach
My experiences as a CIT and Coach at Terriers taught me and others how to respectably conduct ourselves in a work environment, and represent a program with our attitudes and actions. I will carry this with me into future work experiences and other aspects of my life.
Shiloh White, CIT and Coach
The best part about Terriers, is getting to coach the kids and spend time with them, it’s great to build relationships with some of the campers. Favorite part of being a CIT is winning the buckets.
Anthony Jean-Laurent, CIT and Coach
Terriers means that I can have fun while teaching kids how to play sports and watching them play because it can get very exciting at times. I also have good experiences while playing/watching with these kids. My biggest takeaway is when a kid messes up. Never yell at them because that could cause them to get sad. This lesson will help me in the future when I have kids and I will not get mad when they mess up because people make mistakes and that’s apart of human nature.
Brian Pini, CIT and Coach
Terriers was the best camp as a child. As a CIT it is a little bit different, but it's still a good time with friends. Work hard and you will be rewarded, do nothing and you get nothing. My favorite part of being a CIT is teaching little kids how to play a sport.
Wedner Cadet, CIT and Coach
It is fun to me being able to help kids out, and teach them new ways to improve their athleticism. Being able to meet new kids, that I can build new relationships with. My favorite moment from Terriers was when I saw a kid who missed an easy shot in basketball, and another kid from the opposite team saw that the kid was sad so he cheered him up.
Shelly Griswold, Coach Parent
I love that Teddy did Terriers when he was younger and now can be a coach to others. Thank you for having a program that fosters older kids mentoring the younger ones.
Pam Buckley, CIT Parent
Just a quick note to let you know that Ben had a great time at Terriers this week and enjoyed being a CIT! You run a great program, and I just wished to say thank you!
Julia Steen, CIT Parent
We just wanted to thank you for another great couple of weeks for Sam & Jack at Terriers. They both had a super time, and Rob and I truly appreciate all that you do for the kids. It is a really wonderful opportunity for them to learn some important life lessons and skills, and have fun in the process.
CIT Parent
Thanks so much for letting our son participate with your great program. He would like to come again next year! We feel fortunate to have had such a great opportunity for our son as a CIT this year.
Paula Ryan, CIT Parent
I don't know what we would do without Terriers! It has made the kid's summers for so many years!
Rick & Hillary Pini, Parent
Andrew has had the best experience being a CIT. He's grown and matured thanks to the opportunity. Terriers is the best!
Ten Acre Parent
Everything was great! Thank you so much. The staff and coaches were so flexible and the kids had a great time in both the park and the gym!
Parent of PlayRox GirlPower Student Coaching Program
“I wanted to let you know how much we appreciated the opportunity our daughter had this summer in your student coaching program. It impacted her in ways we could not imagine and could not be more grateful for. She had struggled through a rough winter/spring and the week she coached at your program, we felt like we had our girl back. It really made such a difference in the rest of her summer and thankfully she is now excited to go back to school. I can definitely point to the week she had with you as the turning point. She said she wants to coach all year! Please share with parents, communities and supporter to help more kids enjoy experiencing your programs!”
