Community Investors' mission is to support the physical, social and emotional wellness of our next generation through fun, inclusive, community-based active play.
Pre-pandemic, kids were experiencing a growing addiction to smartphones, social media and video games, resulting in interpersonal social retraction, inactivity and obesity at increasingly earlier ages. Simultaneously, a decline in recreational programs - a critical source of physical, social and emotional development - has created a perfect storm further intensified by COVID, resulting in spikes in youth anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and attempts. These challenges can all be overcome with organic remedies, but require focus, innovation, and most importantly, support.
Community Investors is a Massachusetts-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting the physical, social and emotional wellness of elementary, middle and high school students through the power of play. Our PlayRox program is a unique blend of music-fueled fun for kids of all ages, genders and abilities that has been developed and refined over 30 years.
Play-based social and emotional development is vital to our mission. Through the power of play, we foster and train middle school, high school and college students, who coach and mentor younger participants - resulting in increased resiliency, empathy and joy. We partner with other stakeholders, like schools, recreation and health departments, to further nurture our programs within the fabric of the community. We also encourage understanding and acceptance through our Urban-to-Suburban Bridge Program, which builds connection across diverse communities.
In 2020, we were honored to receive federal recognition by the US Department of Health & Human Services as a National Youth Sports Strategy Champion. Our organization has also been recognized by Challenge Success co-founder Denise Pope, PhD, as a best practitioner of play.
“Our goal is to make sure each and every participant, from players to coaches, are actively having fun and being good to one another. Every kid here is valued and celebrated for who they are. Our blend of unstructured free play and organized team play – all backed by the incredible music soundtrack we’ve become known for – makes PlayRox a compelling afterschool option for any community.”
