Community Investors Organizational History

 

Since 1991, our principals have created uniquely enjoyable, inclusive experiences in a variety of community based recreational programs. Student Coaching, Leadership, Music and Media programs provide middle and high school students meaningful continuation in the program and valuable learning experiences.  Participants have included the daughters, sons and grandsons of local professional sports leaders, a former Major League Baseball player, NFL assistant coaches, University head coaches, the founder of an organization serving at risk youth in local high schools, numerous individuals who have excelled in athletics and life, and a generation who simply enjoyed being kids having fun playing ball together.

 

In 2014, in response to dramatic increases in youth obesity, anxiety, depression, and suicides, a group of parents with experience in youth development, coaching, management and mental health founded Community Investors, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the physical, social and emotional wellness of youth communities.  

 

Based on numerous research studies citing physical and mental wellness benefits derived by active play, our first initiative was to launch after school enrichment programs at Wellesley Middle School in 2014.  Our programs provide students opportunities to enjoy connecting through active play, yoga and mindfulness. Our programs strive to provide Positive Impactful Experiences “P.I.E.s” for all participants at every event. Led by peers in our Student Coaching & Leadership Development Program and powered by student DJs, announcers and video contributors in our Media Program. Our programs have created over 10,000 “Positive Impactful Experiences” supporting Wellesley Middle School students.

 

In 2016 we launched “PowerPlay”, an elective school day enrichment program at the Excel Academy Charter Middle School in East Boston teaching students about the physical and mental benefits of active play, through play.  It has enjoyed success as a popular student selection.  We strive to make this enrichment program available in more school communities. 

 

In 2017 Wellesley High School engaged us to consult to Wellesley High School’s Enrichment and Recreation Program (ERP) and the Wellesley Recreation Department to support a newly launched Challenge Success initiative responding to increasing student stress and anxiety, developing opportunities and programs for students to play.  We are currently advising student groups leading these initiatives.
